“To live in the midst of an era is to be oblivious to its style.”
Yukio Mishima
Hopelessly tangled and hung out to dry.
Very saddened to hear of the passing of Maurice Sendak. His works were childhood favorites of mine and have been favorites of my children in turn. Like so many others, I was inspired by his reverence for the fire of youth, which as an adult I understand is even more rare in the world than it seemed when I was a child.
Goodbye, Mr. Sendak. You left this world a better place than you found it.

I’m really looking forward to Second Saturday next week. I’m lucky enough to have work in two places and I’m working on having it all ready. Today I carted some paintings off for the art exhibit for In The Flow 2012, which will feature some amazing music and art. I am honored to be a part of it this year.
I will also have work on display in the Zuhg Life store in the downtown mall. I’ll share some more on that soon, but if you haven’t been to the store, go check it out. They have an awesome array of art and music for sale and have live performances from time to time.
Whatever your plans for Second Saturday, try to make it out and support local art and music. And, have fun!
Another entry in the maudlin broken hearts series, #3 for those of you keeping score at home.
And even though it has nothing at all to do with my painting, here’s a song that was stuck in my head while I wrote this post.
I’ve wanted to paint a picture of Johnny Cash for a long time. Like so many projects, it was pushed aside but now I have found the time and energy to complete the painting. Please take a look.
I’ve added a new section which will feature drawings and sketches. To kick things off I’ve posted some sketches I did while watching the Harley White, Jr Ensemble. I never found a good view of the guy on the keyboard but he was awesome, as was the whole band. I was working standing up in a crowded space, so I ended up using a small pocket notebook rather than proper drawing paper. I hope you enjoy these.
