An artist generously forfeited her slated exhibit so that those of us displaced by the 21Ten flooding could have a show this Second Saturday. I am deeply touched by the generosity.
So, if you have a chance, come out and see my works and the works of many other talented artists at Red Dot tonight!
Things have been busy since Second Saturday. On the one hand, I was honored to be interviewed for the Sacramento Art History Consortium Artober Artist series, which was a lot of fun. You can see it for yourself here and also follow up on that site to see the whole series. They’ve been interviewing really top notch talent and I am humbled to be counted among them.
On the other hand, the studio flooded from a defective sprinkler the Monday after Second Saturday, and flooded the first floor (where my studio resides) and much of the upper floor as well. All things considered, I fared pretty well, with my original work suffering very little effects. I lost some prints and some of the furniture took a beating, but I am very lucky that it wasn’t worse. Some of my fellow artists from the complex were not so lucky and suffered considerable damage, I am told. You can see the news story from the Bee here.
Many folks showed up to help move art out of danger, and the Sac FD did an exemplary job getting the situation under control. The owners and management of the complex have been very responsive and I am grateful to all of them for what they’ve done to keep the situation from being worse.
I’m headed into Halloween very aware of how fleeting things can be in life. Maybe that will help me slow down and appreciate the good things a little more from now on.
Between the many visitors last night, I managed to to sketch out this piece. I had some questions about what I was drawing and what it would look like, so I thought I’d share with anyone who was interested.
Come visit the studio and check out some spooky stuff — if you dare!
Thanks to the amazing people that came out this weekend for CAST and Second Saturday! I had the most studio visitors I’ve seen and enjoyed seeing so many new faces. One of the best things about 21Ten is how well they organize and welcome visitors every Second Saturday, and they really stepped up for the studio tour as well.
And huge thanks to the staff of ccas and all the volunteers who made CAST a reality.
Don’t forget there is one more weekend, with all new studios to tour! It’s going to be another great art weekend in Sacramento.
I recently completed a new painting at 21 Ten gallery and it will be on display for the CAST tour and for Second Saturday. It’s the first addition to the Jazz Series in a while but its a painting I’ve finished, restarted and finished again in my head for a long time.
Updated the events page and will have more updates to follow! CAST, the Capital Artists’ Studio Tour happens on Sept 14-15 and the studio at 21 Ten is on the list! Stay tuned for more details!
Pompsicle featured a lovely mermaid who swam ashore long enough to pose for us.
I’ll be in studio 11 of 2110 K Street this second Saturday, with some new paintings to show off! If you’re out & about, stop by for a visit. Zombies are welcome, as always.
I went through and updated my sketch a day galleries. There is nothing like laying out a body of work to see how clearly you failed, ha ha. My sketches have appeared less regularly, but I hope the quality hasn’t declined.
You may judge that for yourself!
